After 30 years of child-raising and countless hours of read-aloud time, Mary Ellen Tippin has turned some of her empty nest hours into story writing. Her small town roots, her love of children, her commitment to Christ, and English skill she claims she learned while home schooling her own children, have made writing a perfect fit for Mrs. Tippin.
“I love to weave everyday experiences, feelings, and personalities into my stories,” she says. “I want to have a significant influence in the lives of the generations to come, and writing stories is a very satisfying way for me to do this.”
Living in Newton, KS, married to husband, RJ, for forty years, mother to five, grandma to nine--continues to be a challenging journey for Ms Tippin. In addition to writing books she has turned one of her stories, “The Christmas Birdie,” into a dancing musicale with successful consecutive performances the last two years. (And another is in the works!) Stories, music, arts that touch the heart and beg for a response motivate many of her activities.
Mary Ellen also leads a Bible study for home schooling moms. “I am a very analytical person. Just thinking has taken much emotional and physical energy throughout my life. I know that may sound strange, but when you analyze everything, well, almost everything, it can wear you out! Now I can see, a little clearer, why God made me the way I am. He has used my personality to teach me so much, and I am enjoying sharing the insights God has given to help other parents and, hopefully, all this “thinking” makes me a better author as well."
Meet the Illustrator, Melanie Regier
Growing up on the farm in rural Kansas taught me that if you’re making a cake and don’t have buttermilk, it’s a long drive to town so you’d better just mix milk with a little vinegar. And if you can’t find just the right scarf… well, teach yourself to knit and make it yourself. The fun is in the solving and in the making.
I’ve spent the first 9 years of my career making greeting cards for DaySpring Cards, and now I am embarking on a new adventure. I am looking for opportunities for collaboration in print and web. I specialize in:
- Type design: making your project easily readable & aesthetically pleasing.
- Corporate Identity: branding your company and creating a consistent look and feel in all areas of the company’s visual marketing.
- Illustration: bringing ideas to life with traditional brush.
